Methodology & Assumptions

Most Western intelligence estimates that China's official defense budget excludes major R&D projects, provincial armed police, and space programs. Furthermore, adjusting for Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) reveals that domestic production of military hardware costs significantly less in absolute USD terms than Western equivalents.
